Deacon's
2006 Annual Report
The
focus of the deacons is to provide care and support to
members of the congregation and the local community.
Each month, there was a Deacon of the Month who
was responsible for coordinating meals, rides, and
general assistance to members who needed help.
There were also specific efforts made to
provide rides to church for those who needed
transportation.
One
of the primary focuses of the Deacons in 2006 was the
local Starfish program.
Six collections were coordinated this year,
including food, filled backpacks for school children,
monetary collections, the holiday Giving Tree, and
holiday food collections.
Through these concentrated efforts, the entire
congregation provided tremendous support for those
people in our community in need of assistance.
This
year, we headed a church drive to make up Emergency
Kits to be sent to Church World Services.
We collected 90 kits in all.
In
addition to special projects (such as Starfish), the
Deacons play a vital roll in the day-to-day,
week-to-week, and month-to-month life of Readington
Reformed Church. On
an on-going basis, the Deacons do the following:
- Annual
Consistory Retreat
- Consistory
Meetings
- Deacons
Meetings
- Serving
Communion
- Assisting
Counters each week
- Sanctuary
Redesign special meetings
- Elder/Deacon
workshop
Sincere
thanks to all the deacons for fulfilling their call to
serve, and especially to Dick Weger and Mike Thompson,
our outgoing deacons who have completed their period
of service.
